Scope of the CCSG

CCSG was formed to specifically address the safety of personnel working on communication cables terminating at 'hot' sites. The group was established as a result of safety concerns from within the electricity industry and from BT. On-going work is now undertaken by EITC.

To protect the industry CCSG has delivered the following:

  • Published EA Engineering Recommendation S37- issue 2 December 2007:-
Code of Practice for the Safe Working on Pilot, Auxiliary and Communications Cables

  • Designed and published ROEP (Rise Of Earth Potential) Information Website.

  • Contributed to the completion of EA Engineering Recommendation S36 during 2007

  • Contributed to the initiative which resulted in a Risk Assessment based approach being investigated by the EA ASG under project no.10.
This resulted in ETR 128 and ETR 129 being published during 2007

  • Set up a regular forum with BT with the aim of jointly developing the standards and resolving local issues and national issues

  • Meet with BT on an annual basis to update all reference documentation and standards (Electricity Industry and BT ISIS) and revise web archives to reflect agreed changes

  • Address any new issues raised by Network Rail or other PTOs

  • The objective of CCSG is currently to identify new isolation requirements to accommodate the provisioning of NGN services at 'hot sites' and to continue to review existing and new design documents that can support S37
